Victorian rape victim opens up about repeat attack

A woman who was raped twice by the same man in Melbourne three decades ago has bravely spoken about the horrific ordeal.

Police have uncovered new evidence and believe it is only a matter of time before they catch her attacker.

Thirty years on, Marie is still traumatised by the two attacks

“I never thought it would ever, ever happen again, and when it did it was violent the second time. He made sure he did it good and proper," she said.

She was just 15, visiting her horses at a paddock near Ballarat Road in Sunshine on March 22, 1986 when her life changed forever.

She was raped by a man who was nearby feeding another horse.

Police said it was opportunistic, but four months later he attacked again.

Detective Senior Constable Alan Jephcott said: "I want you to look at her as a 15-year-old girl in a paddock in love with a horse and her innocence is stolen away from her not once but twice in one year."

New testing of the evidence has uncovered DNA and police are confident it is only a matter of time before the man is caught.

They said the man was around 25 years old, a solid build, and 182cm tall.

He looked Greek or Italian and had a distinctive scar on the left side of his chin.

He was also wearing a thick gold identity bracelet.

"I believe he's very identifiable and I believe we will identify him with assistance of the public,"Det. Snr Const. Jephcott said.

Marie hopes someone will come forward.

"Let me live the rest of my life knowing that he's doing his time like I've done my time for 30 years."
