Senator calls Twitter user a 'c***' days after Dutton's 'witch' text

Another politician has jumped on the explicit name-calling bandwagon, this time dropping the c-bomb in the public sphere of social media.

Libertarian senator David Leyonhjelm yesterday took to Twitter to call another user a ‘c***’, with the incident becoming the second bad-language scandal to feature politicians this week.

The pair got into a disagreement about Immigration Minister Peter Dutton's controversial text message, where he labelled a journalist a ‘mad f***ing witch’ in a message reportedly meant for someone else.

The arguement kicked off after Labor Senator Penny Wong's comments on a breakfast radio show.

She told the show she would be offended if she was called a ‘witch’ and stated she believed many women would share her view on the matter.

Senator Leyonhjelm then decided to add his opinion.

“@SenatorWong protests too much. She's been called worse, and called others worse, many times. Offence is chosen,” he wrote to his 5,600 followers.

Many people respond to this comment including one user who said: “So, if someone called you a "baldy lunatic f***wit", you'd be fine with it?”

Senator Leyonhjelm then jumped straight to the point and told the user exactly what he thought.

“I'd call you a c***. And probably a rude name after that.”

The commotion carried on between the two parties, with many other social media users appalled at the language used by the senator.

“David again showing why he is not a suitable Australian Parliamentarian,” a user commented.

“Needs to be sacked. Just foul mouthed. Do we pay for this scum?” questioned another.

A spokesman said the senator told the Sydney Morning Herald that he 'is a rude man' and also mentioned that those offended by his language have 'probably used it themselves'.
