Scott Morrison denies he was secretly offered Treasurer role during first spill

Treasurer Scott Morrison has denied he was offered his job during a failed leadership spill against then prime minister Tony Abbott in February.

Mr Morrison admitted he did take a call from Malcolm Turnbull, but denied he was offered the role, following Fairfax media reports he was offered the spot if Mr Abbott was removed as prime minister.

"Nothing came of it, there was no arrangement, no deal there was no offers," Mr Morrison told Sky News.

The report says Mr Morrison was offered the job via a phone call in a private residence during a fundraising event, where Julie Bishop was also in attendance.

They reportedly moved to a private room and made the phone call to Mr Morrison, who was driving to Canberra for the spill at the time.

Mr Morrison was reportedly 'open' to the idea but did not commit at the time.

"We basically agreed - Turnbull as leader, Bishop as deputy and Morrison as treasurer," a source said.
