Failed ram raid leaves cafe owner with $30,000 of damage

An attempted ram raid in Sydney's southwest has gone wrong with a stolen 4-WD left jammed in a cafe.

Police believe the thieves were trying to drive through the Michel's Patisserie to get to an ATM inside the Wattle Grove shopping centre.

But when they got stuck they fled empty handed with two people still on the run after the overnight crime.

Cafe owner Darryl Lawson told 7 News: "I guess they just don't care about anyone's livelihood, they just care about themselves and trying to get cheap money"

The cafe owner thinks the damage bill will be at least $30,000.
