Police officer's heartwarming gesture goes viral

A police officer has become an online hero after his kind act to help a stranger went viral.

When Roeland Park Police were called to investigate a suspicious person at the park, they didn't find a criminal. They found a man who has fallen on tough times.

“Sometimes I have to sleep outside because I want to keep my job," said Samuel Meixueiro who walks five to six hours just to keep his job.

"That's just how it is.”

Soon after officer Zach Stamper arrived on the scene, he realised Meixueiro was really struggling.

“He shook my hand, we had a chat like I was talking to a friend of mine,” Officer Stamper said.

“I was like, wow. My commute, I drive to work and it's done. I couldn't imagine spending five hours a day travelling back and forth to work, let alone on foot."

Meixuerio, who admits he has a checkered past, said he couldn't believe what Stamper did after dropping him off to work.

“As I told him my story he started loosening up. Started realising I'm not a vagrant. I have a job. I'm doing the best I can,” Meixueiro said.

Stamper dropped Meixueiro a bike to take to work and a bag to carry his belongings in.

“I cried. I couldn't believe it," Meixueiro said.

"Things are so hard for me right now. Any kind of help is just a blessing.”

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

He told Fox News the while the bike meant the world, what meant more was that someone else believed in him and his future.

Officer Stamper isn't the first person to make a name for himself for going out of his way to help a stranger.
