W--kers: Punter crashes PM's press conference

We don’t need pollsters, pundits or professors to tell us the mood of the Aussie electorate.

We just need this bloke from Perth.

Now, to be fair, he could have been talking to a few people when he shouted “You’re all a bunch of wankers” at full voice during a weekend press conference, but the Prime Minister was the man in the camera frame at the time.

Tony Abbott laughed off the conference crasher, who’s become the third person in the past seven days to have allegedly colourful commentary caught by media microphones.

To be perfectly fair to the embattled PM, who was in Western Australia ahead of a key by-election which could undo his premiership in the very near future, there were also a lot of journalists around at the time.

It is not uncommon for people to yell wanker at journalists either (see the inevitable social media comments on this article for proof), so we’ll give Mr Abbott the benefit of the doubt and say he was just one of many potential targets for the slur.

It’s been a big week for Australian microphones.

Unlike Immigration Minister Peter Dutton and Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, though, it appears this Perth punter actually did want his words recorded and broadcast.

To that end he succeeded spectacularly, with his frank appraisal going out live across the country.
