A man has been arrested for attempted murder after allegedly driving a bulldozer through a home on the NSW Central Coast where a family was sleeping.

Police were called to Weir Road in Teralba early on Monday after reports a man had driven over three parked cars with a bulldozer.

He was driving the bulldozer towards a detached garage on the property where a 29-year-old man was sleeping.

He then steered the machine towards the home and destroyed it, police said.

A 56-year-old woman and her two daughters, aged 15 and 20, were forced to flee the home to escape injury.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man at the property.

He is known to the family and the bulldozer was allegedly stolen from a plant in Teralba.

The man is being questioned at Charlestown Police Station

Officers attended the Weir Road house at 7.30am after receiving triple zero calls. An officer reportedly jumped on board and pressed the emergency stop button.

The bulldozer had been allegedly stolen from Teralba mine.
