Racist dad forbids daughter from black girl's birthday party

A 10-year-old US girl got a birthday card from her white friend that revealed one parent's shocking prejudice.

Tennessee girl Harmony Jones, who is black, invited a white girl to her 10th birthday and received a stunning response.

The unidentified child gave the girl a handmade card with a message scrawled in colourful felt markers. It read: Maby I will not be able to come to your birthday sleepover, because my dad will not let me go because you are black.”

“Not trying to be races, but my mom let me go," she added. "Happy birthday!”

Harmony's father, Christopher, told local media he was surprised that the girl’s father wouldn’t want his daughter to attend.

“It angered me a little bit, it hurt me that my 10-year-old girl had to deal with this, and I myself never thought I would have to deal with this,” Jones said.

“I guess us as parents, (we) need to be more aware and conscious about what we teach our children.”

Despite the racist note, Harmony Jones had a lovely 10th birthday, local TV station WREG reported.
