App developer's surprise gift to his parents

Sometimes the best presents don't come in the prettiest packages, and one New York app developer has proved that this Christmas.

Joe Riquelme gave his parents a small white envelope, and it was something they certainly weren't expecting.

Inside were bank documents and a handwritten note from Joe to his parents, telling them their mortgage had been paid off.

The incredible act of generosity and the emotional response it created was caught on camera.

On the video his mother can be seen flipping through a few white pieces of paper, before realising the true impact of the present.

She was brought to tears, before kissing and hugging her son.

She hands the gift to her husband, who also breaks down, before the three of them embrace.

Joe had also drawn a box on the paper with a checklist on it and marks next to each item: raising kids, college loans and mortgage.

The video on Joe's own YouTube account has had more than 1.3 million hits.
