The festive season in Katanning will be sure to lift community spirits with a series of new events promised over the coming months.

The Shire of Katanning is organising its first Light Up the Night, planned for November 29.

They are calling on community groups to participate in the inaugural event which will feature a parade starting along Austral Terrace.

According to communications officer Laura Hellard, the purpose of the parade is to celebrate the contribution community groups make to Katanning.

“The parade is a way we can showcase what Katanning has to offer,” she said.

“The Light Up the Night ceremony will also be a fundraiser for blood cancer research. The event provides a wide range of benefits to the community and for medical research.”

The parade will finish at Katanning’s new Town Square and feature Perth-based performers, the Police Pipe Band.

Dome Coffee will also be getting into the spirit of giving, according to the Shire, with plans for an official handover of $1 to confirm the franchise’s purchase of the Old Flour Mill.

Shire president Alan McFarland also confirmed new Christmas lights purchased by the Shire this year will also be officially switched on.

“We want to celebrate how far we have come with the main street development so far,” he said.

“Council is keen to encourage more community events in the area.”

Katanning Action Network also have plans to embrace the festive spirit with a window display competition. To get involved with the parade, contact the Shire on 9821 9999.
