NSW police officer refused bail over alleged Cabramatta robbery

A New South Wales police officer accused of taking part in an attempted robbery on a Sydney street has been refused bail in court.

Senior Constable Ashur Oshana, 29, was one of three men arrested yesterday in Cabramatta, in Sydney's south-west.

Court documents reveal Oshana and two co-accused, Phillip Truong and Jamal Tashman, allegedly capsicum sprayed their victims, Van Le and Thi Vo.

The pair was walking out of a money transfer business on John Street with a bag containing $300,000 cash.

Police said Oshana, who was attached to the South West Metropolitan police region, had been suspended from duty without pay before the alleged crime.

Oshana, Truong and Tashman were arrested at the scene by heavily-armed police who had the area under surveillance after a tip-off.

They were charged overnight with armed robbery in company.

They have also each been charged with three counts of stealing over the alleged theft of three sets of numberplates from Green Valley and Canley Vale.

The trio did not appear when the matter was dealt with in Liverpool Local Court this morning, and they did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.

Court documents show Oshana lives with his parents in Elizabeth Hills in Sydney's outer south-west.

Lawyers for the men said they would apply for bail on Thursday.
