7 News Brisbane Walkley winners

The team at Seven News Brisbane has been recognised for the coverage of this year's Queensland floods at the Walkley Awards - the most prestigious journalism awards in Australia.

Jeremy Ward, Luke Miers, Erin Edwards, Geoff Breusch and Sally Eeles won the Walkley for Television News Reporting.

While cameraman Jeremy Ward had double cause for celebration after taking home the award for Best Broadcast Camerawork. Jeremy was singled out by the judges for his extraordinary shots of the Queensland floods taken at Murphys Creek near Toowoomba.

Reporter Erin Edwards accompanied Jeremy in the Seven News helicopter as he captured the shots of a family of three on top of a car.

The family were trapped on the roof of a car as floodwaters surrounded them. The images were broadcast around the world.

Jeremy kept his composure while also playing a part in the rescue of two people.

"In the shock and chaos of houses and people being washed away in the Lockyer Valley, the work of the Seven News team stood out - they captured the immediacy, horror and scale without sensationalising it," the Walkley judges commented.

Reporter Geoff Breusch and cameraman Luke Miers arrived to report for Seven News from Postmans Ridge near Toowoomba just as the flood hit.

"It's a wonderful honour. This is a fantastic result and fitting recognition for their efforts," said News Director Rob Raschke.
