A 13-year-old boy died after he fell from a five-story parking garage in Harrison, N.Y., on Sunday, June 9, according to a statement from the MTA police department.
Mark Anthony Giordano, an eighth-grade student at Lewis M. Klein Middle School, was riding his bike with four friends on the top floor of the Metro-North Harrison train station parking structure around 5:45 p.m. Giordano then lost control of an electric-powered bike and catapulted off it and over the edge of the structure, per the MTA police.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, and he was “discovered at ground level adjacent to the garage,” per the MTA police. Giordano was taken to the White Plains Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The remaining children were not injured.
An investigation into the event is underway, but authorities have stated that no “criminality” is suspected.
On Monday, June 10, the superintendent of Harrison Central School District, Louis N. Wool, released a statement to parents and students across the district. “Nothing is more difficult to fathom nor more tragic to experience than the loss of a child,” began the statement. “Mark was beloved by his teachers, coaches, and friends. Our exceptional faculty, coaches, and SROs stepped in immediately to support his family and our students.”
Wool also shared support for students, faculty, and staff, noting that those impacted should reach out directly to their principal.

Additionally, a GoFundMe page was created by Frank Barchella to assist Giordano’s family with after-life expenses.
The donation page’s description read: “He was a student athlete at Harrison High School and his promise and ceiling at both Football and Wrestling was limitless. He will be missed for the gentle soul and dedicated friend he was to all who he came in contact with in just a short time here.”
Per the Harrison Wrestling Facebook page, Giordano played football and wrestled varsity at 220 lbs. The middle schooler was an All-League wrestler and a Sectional Championship Qualifier. He “was an amazing young man who accomplished so much in so little time” and “was always respectful, polite and a wonderful loving teammate, brother and son.”
