1 dead in Hull apartment fire

A 74-year-old man was pronounced dead after being transported to hospital following a fire at an apartment building in the Hull sector of Gatineau on Thursday night, according to a news release from Gatineau police.

Firefighters responded to the fire at an apartment building on rue Lafontaine shortly after 9:30 p.m., police said.

Police secured the perimeter of the building as firefighters brought the fire under control.

Most of the building's residents were evacuated and were later able to return to their homes.

The scene remains under police control while the coroner investigates.
