Brave office worker tackles armed robber

An office worker has been caught on video leaping onto the back of an armed bandit following a brazen jewellery store robbery in London.

A gang of three dressed in dark clothing and wearing motorbike helmets had smashed their way into Carr Watches and Diamonds near Liverpool Street station in central London and were using two motorised scooters as getaway vehicles.

While two managed to flee the scene, a heroic passerby pounced on the third suspect.

Grabbing him around the neck from behind, the office workers briefly managed to stop the alleged thief before he pulls out a machete, sending the would-be hero running for safety.

The owner of a nearby store said he heard a loud thumping noise and initially thought it was builders working across the road.

“Then I looked at them and realised it couldn't be them as they were looking at me,” he told the Daily Mail.

“Then I saw a guy in a motorbike helmet… then the man started running towards the main road.

“Then the man in the helmet pulled out a machete from somewhere, it just appeared.”

An unmarked police car arrived at the scene moments earlier and an officer chased the suspect on foot, but returned to his vehicle soon after.

The two thieves who escaped on mopeds remain on the run while the third alleged thief was arrested in an underground car park nearby.
