Woman seriously injured in shark attack

A woman in her 40s has been bitten by a 2m long tiger shark in waist deep water of the Western Australian coast.

She was in water off Sandland Island at Jurien Beach about 11.30am on Monday when she was attacked.

It is understood she has serious leg injuries.

St John Ambulance received a call about the incident at 11.44am, initiating a priority one response with two road crews and a rescue helicopter.

The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, and the Shire of Dandaragan have closed beaches between Sandy Cape and North Head.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development recommends additional caution in the Jurien Bay area.

Anyone who sees a shark can report a sighting to Water Police at 9442 8600.
