Elderly driver ploughs into restaurant

An out of control car driven by an elderly woman, believed to be in her eighties, has ploughed through the front window of a restaurant in Melbourne's east.

The vehicle crashed into One Thai restaurant in Belmore Road, in Balwyn East.

Owner David Popiasut said it is the second time a car has crashed through his restaurant.

"This is the second time, but before we had to remove only one window panel."

He said it is lucky no one was injured in the accident.

"We normally only do dinner so it was lucky no one was here," he said.

The restaurant is likely to be closed for several days due to extensive damage.
