Seriously ill football fan becomes a player for a day

Dutch football club Ajax Amsterdam have made the dream of a seriously ill young fan come true - by signing him as a player for the day.

The club's foundation has released a video of eight-year-old Jay-Jay Willems being scouted at a training session, taking part in a media conference and taking the field in front of thousands of screaming fans.

Jay-Jay also meets with Ajax's legendary manager Frank de Boer and gets a ride to the Amsterdam Arena in a Mercedes, just like the pros do.

De Boer seemed very impressed by his new signing when he unveiled him at a mock media conference.

"I would like to introduce a new player," De Boer told the media.

"Jay-Jay is a left forward and during training he got our attention.

"With his qualities we think he eventually can play with the first team."

TV network Fox News also got in on the act, getting one of their football experts to give more words of encouragement.

"He really understands the game. You can see that in his movements," the pundit said.

"Another hero is born at Ajax: Jay-Jay Willems."
