Anxious wait for hurt Boomer

Young Australian basketball star Jason Cadee will have to wait until tomorrow morning to have an operation on his suspected broken pelvis afte rhe was injured in a car crash in Sydney on Monday.

Gold Coast Blaze officials won't know how long their 19-year-old signing will be sidelined for until after he has had the operation.

Cadee was in a car that collided with a truck and was lucky to escape without life-threatening injuries after having to be cut from the car. He is recovering in a Sydney hospital.

Blaze chief executive Dave Claxton refused to speculate on the extent of Cadee's injury but admitted it could change his club's recruiting policy, with one spot still available on the roster for an import.

"This might change our look about that as well, as to who that second import will be," Claxton said.

"Once we know a bit more detail about Jason that will help us make our final decisions."

Claxton said he Cadee had been a big part of coach Joey Wright's plans and would be given every chance to fulfil that ambition.

Cadee is part of a talented back-court roster which includes fellow Australian representatives Adam Gibson, James Harvey and Chris Goulding.

"Jason's had a spectacular year from a young player's point of view," Claxton said.

"He's been in the Boomers selection, played in Perth in that Boomers game against Argentina and he's obviously well-respected by the Australian coaching staff as well as our own.

"Getting his first NBL contract is one step but the plan was that he would be a fairly significant part of our back-court."

The Blaze open their 2009/10 season on October 15 away to last season's beaten grand finalists Wollongong.
