Japanese industrial giant Hitachi will set up a new $100 million machinery manufacturing operation at the new Forrestdale Business Park south of Perth.

The facility will bring 350 workers to the area and replace the company's existing facility in Welshpool, which it has outgrown.

The company is the first to secure land in Forrestdale Business Park West, buying a 10 hectare site.

Hitachi is a major supplier to the State's mining industry including Rio Tinto, Fortescue Metals Group and BHP Billiton, manufacturing equipment such as dump trucks, dozers, excavators and harvesters.

Forrestdale Business Park consists of more than 300 hectares of commercial and industrial land.

Planning Minister John Day said the Park was expected to accommodate up to 700 industrial lots, catering for a workforce of as many as 12,000 workers.
