Two charged after attack on man, 77

Two people have been charged after an elderly man was allegedly punched in the face in a shopping centre car park on Tuesday.

Police have charged a 24-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man, who are both from Kelmscott, after the alleged attack on the 77-year-old man at the Maddington Centro Shopping Centre.

The man was leaving his vehicle at about 12.30pm when a woman allegedly started verbally abusing him and struck him to the face.

Police allege the man attempted to defend himself by pushing her arms away but was punched in the face when a man, who was with the woman, intervened.

The elderly man fell to the ground, breaking his arm and receiving cuts and bruises.

The man and woman are alleged to have fled the scene once members of the public intervened.

The woman has been charged with aggravated assault and the man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

They are scheduled to appear in Armadale Magistrate's Court at a later date.
