Dead gambler who bet on Federer may win $150,000
A gambler who bet eight years ago that tennis star Roger Federer would win the Wimbledon title seven times could receive more than $150,000 from beyond the grave.
Nick Newlife of Oxford died died in February 2009 aged 59, much before being able to see his wager bear result.
However, a clever punter, he had made arrangements for the eventuality by leaving his bet in a will to charity organization Oxfam.
Oxfam will collect $156,527 winnings either during the tournament starting next week or at any time until 2019.
Newlife had placed a bet of $2,336 in 2003 on the Swiss maestro to win seven Wimbledon titles before the year 2019.
The bet was made the year that Federer won his very first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon.
However, it was much before the time the Swiss made his incredible run as the best player in the world
The charity now stands to receive the sum if 29-year-old Federer clinches his seventh Wimbledon singles win by 2019.
Therefore, a victory at Wimbledon for Federer would help thousands of people in need of aid, thanks to a deceased gambler from Oxford.
