Cancellation angers fans

Singer Chris Brown's last minute cancellation of the Perth leg of his tour has angered and disappointed fans who have taken to news websites and social networks to vent their frustration.

The R & B star was due to perform at the Burswood Dome last night, but his management released a statement yesterday saying the singer had been forced to cancel his show because of severe flu and a bacterial infection.

Perth couple Ryan Hesford and his girlfriend Aleisha Puca, who bought their $149 tickets in January, said at first they thought it was a joke.

"It is really disappointing. I've been told it will take up to two weeks to get a refund and that's $300 I could have really done with at the moment," Mr Hesford said. "But I suppose if he's sick, then he's sick."

Brown's doctor said the star was not fit to perform on stage or to travel and his agent reported Brown had rescheduled his flight to Perth several times before finally cancelling it on Monday night.

Brown posted a picture of himself looking ill on his Twitter account on Sunday, tweeting "Doctor told me I had the flu Turned into a bacterial chest infection. Super Meds!"

However there are rumours among fans that slow ticket sales may have been a factor in the cancellation. Last month promotions company Jive Live offered Perth fans a three-for-one ticket deal to fill seats at the venue.

Jive Live managing director Daniel Pritchard denied sluggish sales were related to Brown's outburst on Good Morning America when he was questioned about his assault on former girlfriend Rihanna, saying demand had increased dramatically after Brown's tour kicked off in Adelaide.

There are no plans to reschedule the Perth show and ticket holders should contact Ticketek for a refund on 132 849.
