Suspected murder-suicide in Kardinya

Police will today return to a home in Kardinya to continue investigations into a suspected murder-suicide involving an elderly couple.

Police spent several hours at the home last night after a 74-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman were found dead.

A police spokesman said the couple had been found in their Stamos Court home about 3.30pm. It is believed that the man murdered the woman before killing himself.

Investigators were expected to return to the home today continue forensic examinations of the crime scene.

Police would not reveal how the couple died but it is believed a weapon was involved in the woman’s death.

Major crime squad detectives, investigators from Murdoch and forensic officers were last night examining the scene.

Neighbours Michael and Maria Hill said they knew the elderly man as Robbie and he had always been "chirpy and full of stories".

"He always said hello and we invited him in a number of times," Mrs Hill said.

"It is just so bizarre and terrible. We were talking to him yesterday and he seemed happy," she said.

A neighbour who lives on the small street, which is home to less a dozen properties, described the couple as "very quiet" and said she had rarely seen them. The neighbour, who did not want to be named, said she had never heard the couple arguing or shouting and was shocked by their deaths.
