Fears for 'privatised' Rottnest

Broadening the privatisation of services on Rottnest Island could push the cost of a family holiday there out of reach of average West Australians, the State Opposition warned yesterday.

Fremantle Labor MP Simone McGurk said Rottnest Island Authority staff members had been advised that the RIA planned to privatise several key services on the island, including accommodation, tours, transport and bike hire.

Tourism Minister Liza Harvey said the Government remained committed to ensuring Rottnest was accessible to all in the community.
