Man charged over TAB raids

A man who allegedly threatened betting agency staff with a gun in Perth's north has been charged.

A police spokesman said about 7pm on August 27 a man entered the TAB in Kingsway armed with a firearm.

He allegedly threatened a staff member but was not given any cash and left empty-handed.

About 3pm the following day police allege the same man entered the TAB store in Duncraig, while another man waited in a car outside.

He threatened an attendant and demanded cash.

The employee and a customer left the store, locking the offender inside. The robber escaped by smashing a window and left with an amount of cash.

Regional Investigations Unit detectives raided a Merriwa home yesterday and arrested a 37-year-old man.

The man has been charged with attempted armed robbery and aggravated armed robbery and is scheduled to appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court today.
