Triple J is Perth's number one station

Perth radio listeners have switched off from local stations, with national youth broadcaster Triple J becoming Perth’s number one radio station for the first time in the latest ratings figures released this morning.

Triple J has secured a 13 per cent audience share across the week, up 2.2 percentage points in the latest Nielsen survey, the fifth for the year.

It also marks the first time Triple J has been number one overall in any market.

Coming in equal second are local stations 96FM and Mix 94.5, both on a 12.1 per cent audience share.

96FM won the last ratings, taking the crown off Mix 94.5, but was down 1.2 percentage points in this survey, while Mix 94.5 was down 0.2 percentage points.

Triple J saw huge boosts across each of their timeslots, gaining big numbers in mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Its ratings peaked in the afternoon (noon-4pm) shift with a 14.8 per cent market share (up 2.1 percentage points).

It held a 13.8 per cent market share (up 2.1 percentage points) for the lucrative drive shift with "The Doctor" and Hack, making it Perth's number one drive show.

Eoin Cameron held onto his breakfast crown with his ABC720 breakfast show with a 14.1 per cent market share, up 1.7 percentage points.

Nova 93.7’s Nathan Morris, Natalie Locke and Shaun McManus also increased their lead as the number one FM breakfast show, up 0.2 percentage points to hold a 12.5 per cent market share.
