Worker program extended

WA hotels and hostels will be able to employ people from eight Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste under an extension of a trial seasonal workers program.

Federal Tourism Minister Gary Gray announced the expansion of the program yesterday for Australian employers who can demonstrate an unmet demand for low-skilled labour.

Almost 1500 seasonal workers were recruited nationally by participating employers in 2012-13 with the trial already under way in Broome.
