A furious sub-contractor has ripped up his own paving work at a new complex in South Australia, claiming he was left tens of thousands of dollars out of pocket.

Joshua Ryan said he's owed $60,000 for the five thousand square metre job at the recently built Emergency Services Complex at Port Lincoln, that was completed over a year ago.

He began ripping up the pavers today, but was then stopped when SES crews in the building noticed and called the police who eventually intervened and stopped him.

He said he was promised full payment when the job was finished, but has never received a cent, despite several attempts to get his money from the Adelaide-based company contracted to the complex.

The company was unavailable for comment when 7News called them today.

Mr Ryan says he will continue until he receives payment for the work.

"We will be back with a bigger machine and there will be no stopping us," he said.
