FIRST ON 7: A Sydney grandmother has told how she thought she was going to die at the hands of a madman who had stalked her and her daughter through the streets of Blacktown.

The pair were on a shopping trip for Mother's Day when the enraged man, impatient over the way they drove, jumped out of his car, and started punching.

Great-grandmother Dawn Johnson, 79, thought her life was about to end, in the kind of road rage attack she had only ever read about.

"It's like a nightmare that should never have happened," Ms Johnson said.

"I read it. I've seen it and it was like a fictional movie where you see these people pumped up and they just keep going like animals."

"He [was] right up into my boot."

On Monday morning Ms Johnson found herself the target of a predator, determined to punish her for driving carefully on her way to Blacktown for Mother's Day shopping with her daughter.

She was followed by the 4WD from the corner of Banngarrabie Road, past Blacktown Hospital, along Main Street and into Newton Road.

Things really started to get ugly for Dawn when she pulled over her in Balmoral St Blacktown.

The anxiety of being followed for block, after block suddenly became a fear for her life.

"He got out of his car and started smashing at my passenger's side window with both fists clenched," Dawn said.

The attacker then opened the unlocked passenger door and started bashing her daughter

"He was punching Cathy in the head very severely," Ms Johnson said.

Then it was Ms Johnson's turn suffering repeated blows to her arm and cutting her hand.

"I was bleeding and didn't know what to do so we were grabbing for something to put on my hand," she said.

Her wounds will heal in time but she will never forget her attacker's eyes.

"Full of hatred. Absolutely. I've never seen anything so frightening in my life."

She described the wanted man as short, with a muscular build in his mid to late twenties.
