Hunt for police staffer who 'stole guns'

A statewide search is underway for a police force employee accused of stealing several firearms.

It's believed 38-year-old, Alan James Cumberland, who is an armourer with the force, may be armed with a rifle.

Officers searched Mr Cumberland's property at Tuggerah Lakes on the New South Wales Central Coast yesterday afternoon.

They discovered a large numbers of weapons, some believed to have been misappropriated.

Firearms parts, ammunition of various calibres, machining equipment and prohibited weapons were also found.

But officers say Mr Cumberland may be carrying a registered rifle and rifle receiver, which remain unaccounted for.

The raids were one of four searches carried out across New South Wales yesterday.

A machine gun, ammunition and cash was also seized at Bonnells Bay.

Police want anyone with information about Cumberland's whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
