Tourists camping in eerie abandoned theme park in China

A creepy abandoned theme park in Wuhan, China, has recently become a magnet for tourists. Construction on ‘Universal Park’ was abandoned in 1999, leaving numerous copycat monuments, such as the Egyptian pyramids, to waste and overgrowth.

Universal Park contains a varied amount of structures that were outright reproductions of world-renowned places like the Egyptian pyramids and the Hogwarts school from the iconic J.K.Rowling-penned ‘Harry Potter’ series. The entire park has since fallen into disrepair over the past 16 years.

Recently, travellers have begun exploring the abandoned site, using it as a campground and, unusually, a spot for wedding photos.

some have even gotten into the habit of going around and taking selfies during picnics with the buildings covered in moss and other vegetation.

After three years, construction of the park was halted due to lack of funds and transportation access issues.

The renewed burst of visitor activity has created a buzz around China, and there are some who hope that this will give Universal Park a second chance at being a tourist attraction so it can avoid total demolition.
