No laughing matter: Why buyers are creeped out by this house

A Canadian house on sale for less than AU$240,000 but buyers might be creeped out by its current tenants - thousands of clowns.

The Ontario house is full of clown pictures, statues and dolls, and anyone suffering from coulrophobia (fear of clowns) would be best urged to steer clear.

The owners have kept the red-nosed tenants for inspections while prospective new owners check out the house.

Michael McMannis, the son of the homeowners, told Vice his step-father began collecting clowns in a successful attempt to curb his taste for beer.

He estimated over 30 years the couple collected about 1,500 clowns.

However, despite the jesters hanging from the walls buyers aren’t clowning around with offers for the property.

Estate agent Kyle Jansink said not only has the property received multiple offers but with added publicity expected “extra out-of-town buyers” to come to the table.
