Man shot by police after pulling homemade gun on officers

A fugitive who pulled a homemade gun on officers in Victoria says he was high on ice at the time, so he can’t remember the incident or being shot in the hip.

Adrian Turra has pleaded guilty to a string of charges after he led police on a foot chase through Dandenong in October last year.

The court heard Turra was a passenger in a Mazda sedan that was stopped by police, but when officers tried to take his details, he fled.

“We’ve got a male with a gun,” one officer can be heard saying.

“Stud Road, heading towards David Street, he’s got a gun.”

After unsuccessfully trying to carjack a BMW, Turra turned around and pointed his gun at officers.

Moments later, both officers opened fire and Turra was shot in the hip, causing him to drop to the ground.

Police later located a bag of bullets and two knives in the Trafalgar man’s backpack.

In court on Friday, Turra pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery, assaulting police and carrying a prohibited weapon.

Despite the drug ice affecting his memory of the incident, CCTV captured the confrontation and was played in court.

Turra will appear in court again in May.
