Bliss N Eso stuntman death: Police probe shotgun blanks

Investigations into the death of an actor shot while filming a music video in Brisbane could take weeks.

Father-of-one Johann Ofner, 28, died after being shot in the chest on Monday while filming a video for hip-hop band Bliss N Eso at the underground bar, Brooklyn Standard.

Bliss N Eso management have confirmed the gun was loaded with blanks, a type of cartridge that has no bullet but contains gunpowder and is still dangerous when fired.

Police are reviewing CCTV and footage taken during production as they try to determine how Mr Ofner's fatal injury was caused.

The Courier Mail reports sources claimed the crew was filming when Mr Ofner died.

Police have not ruled out criminal charges over the death and are reportedly investigating whether handmade blanks were used in a shotgun that killed the stuntman.

Investigators say ballistic testing and witness interviews will take weeks.

"It's a very detailed matter, it takes some time to work through projectiles and all those types of things," Acting Detective Supterintendent Mick O'Dowd said.

The police investigation will focus on whether workplace health and safety laws were followed.

Just a few hours before he died, Mr Ofner uploaded a video to Instagram of props - including two guns and stacks of cash - being used for the clip and made an apparently light-hearted reference to "faulty props".

Australia's film and television union, the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, says the death will spark a review of the film safety code, which is not legally binding but sits alongside enforceable workplace health and safety laws.

Mr Ofner - a stuntman and actor who was due to feature in TV series Australian Ninja Warrior later this year - is being remembered as an adventurous, hard-working man who loved his daughter and had a lust for life.
