A motorcyclist is fighting for life after a horror crash in Sydney’s west, with the impact blowing the rider’s helmet off.
Witnesses claim a police car was chasing the man moments before the rider crashed into a car in Regents Park on Monday afternoon.
The man’s distraught family was left to watch on as paramedics successfully revived the 22-year-old on the side of the road.
But police deny its officers were involved, with a critical investigation underway.
“Police were chasing the guy on the motorbike so I’m not sure what was behind all that,” witness Asif ALizada said.
A Riot Squad car was seen roughly 70 metres behind the rider before he crashed, but a police spokesperson said no pursuit had been engaged.
“At no stage did police engage in a pursuit when the motorcycle accelerated away at speed,” Acting assistant commissioner Mark Jones said.
“Police made a conscious decision not the pursue the vehicle.
“The police did not pursue the motorcycle, but they patrolled the area and a short time layer they observed that the motorcycle had collided with a motor car.”
An investigation has been launched into the crash.
