Sydney stabbing: Bail refused for trio accused of murder

Two young men and a teen boy have been charged with murder after an 18-year-old was fatally stabbed in Sydney’s southwest.

Paramedics worked to save Adam Abu-Mahmoud who was stabbed several times following a brawl in Panania, with the knife still lodged in the victim’s back.

Mr Abu-Mahmoud’s family friend Mark Wray was one of the first on the scene on Monday night.

“(Adam) is actually a lovely young, honest boy. I couldn’t believe it when I saw his face and it was him. He’s a good boy,” Mr Wray said.

“Everyone is around him trying to hold rags around so the knife, so he doesn’t bleed. And the knife, I couldn’t imagine how deep the knife was inside him.”

Police allege Mr Abu-Mahmoud was stabbed after a brawl involving his friends and another group of men outside a Panania convenience store.

It’s believed the victim and his brother followed the accused men back to a nearby house where he was then stabbed multiple times.

Witnesses reported a “very disturbing” and “upsetting” scene with the 18-year-old rushed to hospital. He died less than an hour later.

On Tuesday Joshua Dylan, James Rivera and a 17-year-old teen didn’t appear in the dock for their first appearance, with bail formally refused.

Family supporters for the trio were in court for the hearing where counsel for Mr Riveria indicated his client would fight the charge.

The lawyer indicated his client acted in self-defence and did not start the fight.
