Respected cancer doctor faces up to 25 years' jail

A respected cancer doctor is facing up to 25 years’ jail after he spiked the drink of a female colleague before assaulting her.

John Kearsley told a woman he indecently assaulted not to report it to police because nothing would happen.

Appearing in court on Friday, the 63-year-old attacker was forced to hear from his victim who described her world as “broken”.

“Why I was chosen to be a victim has robbed me of my confidence and sense of self worth," the victim said.

"My world is broken and it will never be the same."

Dr Kearsley spiked the young female registrar’s champagne with the powerful sedative benzodiazepine after inviting her to his home in 2013.

When the victim came to, she found Dr Kearsley fondling and kissing her breasts.

The victim said Dr Kearsley wrote to her after the attack, but she said he showed no remorse.
