Attempted murder: Mother 'circled around son before running him over twice'

A mother allegedly circled her seven-year-old son in a car before running him over twice while he was walking across a reserve on the New South Wales south coast.

The 39-year-old woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, mounted the curb and drove into Corrigans Beach Reserve at Batemans Bay at 3pm on Monday - with a four-year-old girl in the back seat.

It is alleged the woman menaced the young boy and circled him before striking him twice.

Another witness, Con Katsanis said: "He was trying to run away, running looking back, running again."

“The second time she got out of the car I think she was shouting at him really angrily.”

It is believed the girl in the back seat was the boy’s sister and the woman told police her son allegedly assaulted his sister earlier.

The mother has been refused bail and will face Bega Local Court on Tuesday on several charges including attempted murder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

She will undergo a mental health assessment before her next appearance in June and her children will be placed into the care of relatives.
