Murder suspect seen lurking in church hallway dressed in SWAT gear
Eerie surveillance footage taken from the scene of a grisly murder inside a small church in Texas has seen a man dressed in a police SWAT uniform lurking in the hallway just minutes before the horrific killing.
Fitness instructor Terri 'Missy' Bevers was inside the building preparing for her early morning workout class on Monday when she was killed at about 4am.
Her training group made the gruesome discovery when they arrived for their session an hour later.
Police have not revealed how Mrs Bevers died, but said that she suffered "obvious trauma".
The footage showed a man wearing a black tactical helmet, black pants and a black jacket with 'POLICE' stamped on the back in white letters.
Authorities said no cameras captured the murder.
Police Chief Carl Smith told a press conference detectives were considering the option that the man had been interrupted by Mrs Bevers while trying to commit a robbery.
“We are exploring all possibilities," he said.
"It’s just an odd, random situation that they would happen to come into a building that’s being burglarized on a Monday morning. But all scenarios are on the table right now.”
Mrs Bevers, 45, was passionate about fitness and training and had moved her class inside due to wet weather.
"If it's raining, we're still training," one of her last Facebook posts read.
Clients and fellow trainers paid tribute to the popular instructor on social media.
"At the end of this day I'm reminded of how much Missy Bevers loved to laugh and smile!" one man wrote.
"Our Camp Gladiator family is very saddened by the tragic loss of one of our trainers, Missy Bevers. We are thinking and praying for her and her family," a woman said.
Her husband was out of town at the time of the murder but returned home as soon as he heard about his wife's death.
Mrs Bevers leaves behind her three beloved daughters aged eight, 13 and 15.
Police are continuing to search for the suspect.
