Drunken monkey captured after chasing men with a knife

The fire brigade had to be called after a drunken monkey began chasing men with a large knife in a Brazilian bar earlier this month.

The capuchin monkey, who lived close to the bar in Paraiba, had been drinking rum when he came across the knife, aRede reported.

He then grew increasingly agitated when people began to approach him.

The fire brigade was called and officers managed to capture the monkey after several attempts and brought it to an environmental reserve.

However, in a statement from the fire department on Thursday, a commander reportedly said they had to ‘recapture him “because he was causing problems and threatening children living near the reserve”.

Authorities are assessing whether or not the monkey should be returned to its home. Photo: Liveleak

They are now waiting on the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources to assess the monkey and decide if it should be returned to its natural environment.
