Car smashes into Breakfast Point childcare centre

Police were called to a childcare centre in Sydney’s inner west after a car drove into the outdoor area were children were playing on Tuesday morning.

The Breakfast Point centre was occupied by 88 children and 20 adults at the time of the crash.

“Thank god none of the children were hurt,” Explore and Develop childcare owner Jayne Morgan told Yahoo7.

She said the car smashed through the fence and entered the center’s outdoor area, crashing into a tree.

Some of the children were outside at the time of the incident, but Ms Morgan praised her quick thinking staff who were able to get all of the kids indoors.

The centre went into a lockdown immediately after the accident.

Ms Morgan described the scene as ‘pretty chaotic’ and said some of the parents who were arriving at the centre in the morning decided ‘not to drop off their kids’.

Fire and Rescue NSW said there were no injuries to anyone in the child care centre.

“Paramedics did assess some of the children as a precaution,” a spokesperson said.

“We’ve assessed the building, it was fine.”

The car has been removed and the driver of the vehicle, an elderly man, has been taken to hospital.

Business has returned to normal for the daycare centre.
