Groom punches two bridesmaids at his own wedding

A groom has assaulted two of the bridesmaids at his own wedding, which will now be one of the most memorable days of his life for all the wrong reasons.

The bride’s best friend Samantha Dewar, 26, had her cheekbone fractured after copping a blow to the face from newlywed John Paul Campbell in the town of Macclesfield, England.

The mum of two was attacked after stepping in to help another bridesmaid who got in an altercation with the groom.

The 27-year-old man was allegedly hit by the other woman in the carpark of the reception hall and responded by returning the punch.

When Ms Dewar stepped in to help, she was knocked to the ground by Campbell.

“He punched me in the face out of nowhere and knocked me to the floor. It was all so quick and all I can remember is waking up on the floor in agony,” she told the Manchester Evening News.

“I couldn’t open my eye. The swelling was awful and I couldn’t feel my face. I still can’t feel down the side of my face and just hope it will get better.”

Ms Dewar has been friends with the bride since high school, but said they have not talked since the wedding.

She said her confidence has been affected by the incident.

“I’ve been scared to go out and be alone in the house. It was such a forceful punch and it’s scary to think what could have happened.”

Campbell fronted court this week where he pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.

He will be sentenced at the Chester Crown Court at a later date.
