Live US TV report disrupted as suspected bank robber runs past

A suspected bank robber ran past a US TV reporter during a live cross, forcing him to abandon his story and set chase.

Adam Sallet was reporting on a string of robberies at the Sterling State Bank in Rochester, Iowa.

He had just begun his report on Tuesday morning when an employee of the bank ran from the building saying “that’s the guy right there, that’s the robber”.

Sallet, taken aback, responds: “What? Oh, that’s the robber”.

“This is live TV folks,” he reminds the viewer, “that’s the robber that just went by”.

Rather than continue his story, the reporter quickly decides his help in pursuing the thief is more important and he puts an abrupt stop to the report.

“So, I got to go here and call 911. I’ll talk to you later”.

Back at base, a slightly flummoxed presenter is left to pick up the pieces and assure the KIMT audience “that was not set-up”.

The Star Tribune reports the alleged robber, accused of targeting the Rochester bank on successive days, was caught soon after being spotted in the live report.

During the initial robbery on Monday, he was reportedly wearing a road race t-shirt with the words “get luck”.

His luck, it seems, had run out by Tuesday.
