Customers slate Dick Smith staff for 'hoarding' sales goods

Angry retailers have vented their frustration at Dick Smith after claims its staff members were hoarding bargains during a fire sale.

The sale, branded “suicidal’ by rivals, began over the weekend and offered discounts of up to 80 percent off on certain lines.

But some customers were unhappy with how the sale proceeded.

One customer, Paul Milton, commented on Dick Smith’s Facebook page that it was “an absolute disgrace”.

“Floor covered in rubbish…part of back partitioned off…as it looked like staff were hoarding stuff.”

Another customer, queried how to report staff and managers “hoarding items out back for themselves and their friends”.

Alex Johnson wrote: I know a worker bought a Samsung Full HD 50" LED for $69 on the first day of TV sales…she told me. I could report her because I really wanted that TV.”

He goes on to say that he “could not find a TV for under $1,000 that was over 40 Inches so in effect I was cut out of a sale by DSE staff.”

Barrie Hassam wrote: “What an absolute joke, barely anything in sale at all. Went in to buy PS4 and PSvita games, I was the first in the store and only to be told they have been on sale since Tuesday apparently”.

Dick Smith apologised to customers for any inconvenience and aksed several customers to send them a private message with contact details.

In one response the store commented that “the sale has been live since Tuesday and has been advertised as on a wide range of items while stocks last and stock can vary from store to store”.

Dick Smith's share price has tumbled more than 80 per cent after it issued a pair of profit warnings following disappointing October and November sales.
