Sea World evacuated due to large vegetation fire on Gold Coast

A theme park and resort on the Gold Coast have been evacuated after an emergency situation was declared due to a large vegetation fire.

Emergency services were called to the fire, burning on the Southport Spit, near Seaworld Drive, this morning.

Queensland Police has since declared an emergency situation in the area.

Both Sea World, its resort have been evacuated as a precaution.

The area affected includes the northern end of McArthur Parade, Main Beach to the end of the Spit.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services ground crews were working to contain the fire with water-bombing operations expected to begin.

People have been asked to avoid the area.

25,000 school students have started to flock to the Gold Coast today as Schoolies kicks off.
