Roos show power of clubs on golf course

A photographer has captured spectacular photos of two western grey kangaroos “boxing” in Ellenbrook, Western Australia.

Andrew Tyndall was driving near The Vines golf course when he saw the two males facing off with one another.

“I could see straight away they were going to fight,” he said.

“There was a lot of posturing, they clearly meant business.”

Tyndall pulled over and got as close as possible to the impending clash last Thursday.

“And then they just went for it,” he said. “They were using their arms to grapple with and scratch each other’s faces but the real killer blows were delivered with their hind legs.

“It soon became clear which one was coming off second best and I was worried he would be badly injured.

“Those kicks are tremendously powerful and he was taking plenty of hits to the belly.”

After four or five bouts of frenzied exchanges, the opponents called it quits in undramatic fashion.

“The loser calmly capitulated and hopped away to munch on another patch of grass,” Tyndall said.

“He seemed remarkably fine considering the ferocity of the attack.”

Tyndall said the males seemed to be fighting for the sake of a joey-laden female nearby.
