Taylor Walker named as Adelaide Crows captain for 2015 AFL season

Taylor Walker has been named the new Adelaide Crows captain, replacing Nathan van Berlo.

Walker becomes the Crows' seventh captain and his appointment adds to the fresh start the Crows will adopt in 2015, with Phil Walsh in charge for his first season as head coach.

"I am honoured to be given this opportunity and like everyone at our club, want to build on the hard working culture and approach," Walker said in a statement.

Walker, who is contracted to the Crows until the end of the 2018 season, will head a six-man leadership group and Walsh believes the 24-year-old is the ideal choice to take on the role as skipper.

"Taylor is a quality young man and footballer," he said.

"I have said before that he thinks not what is best for himself, but what is best for the team.

"When he speaks or acts, others listen and follow suit, which is a special quality."

Walker's appointment will fuel speculation team-mate Patrick Dangerfield is set to leave the Crows at the end of the season.

Dangerfield had been considered as a future captain of the club in recent seasons but the 24-year-old is rumoured to be looking at a return to his home state Victoria in 2016.

Van Berlo will remain in the Crows' leadership group, having captained the club the past four seasons.

The Broken Hill-born Walker has played 84 senior matches since his 2009 debut.

The Crows finished 10th on the ladder in 2014, with an 11-11 record.
