Huon Valley man pleads guilty to sexual assault of 12-year-old girl

A 23-year-old man began a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old girl after transferring the desires he held for her older sister, Hobart Supreme Court has heard.

The Huon Valley man pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent assault, four counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count each of committing an indecent act with a young person and having sexual intercourse with a young person.

The court heard he was a family friend and had known the girl since she was born.

They had exchanged sexual pictures and explicit texts before the physical relationship began in July.

It lasted 10 days before her family discovered the text messages and called police.

The man told the court because of the mature conversations they were having he forgot she was 12 and then disassociated himself from the fact.

The court heard he had previously harboured desires for her older sister who the girl resembled.

The man has been refused bail and will be sentenced next month.
