Frenchman charged over fatal WA crash

A French tourist has been charged over a fatal scooter crash in Broome.

The man and his 26-year-old male pillion passenger, also a French tourist, were thrown from the scooter when it hit a traffic island about 1am on Monday.

On Thursday afternoon, police said the passenger had died in hospital.

He had not been wearing a helmet and suffered serious head injuries.

The rider, 25, sustained minor injuries.

He has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and is due to appear in the Broome Magistrates Court on September 19.

Police said further investigation was being undertaken and appealed to witnesses to come forward.
